Cynthia Griffenkranz has owned and operated the McKenna School of Dance since 1979 when Annette McKenna, the founder of the school retired.

Having started dancing at the age of 5, she always loved to dance.  Dance class replaced sports and after school clubs for her.  Studying in New York at Broadway Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Phil Black Dance Studio, The Ballet School at Carnegie Hall, David Howard Dance Studio and Luigi’s Dance Studio in addition to New Jersey Ballet, she danced at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana and Montclair State University in New Jersey.  Cynthia attended the training school  for dance instructors with the Dance Educators of America and graduated from the Ballet Arts and Musical Theater divisions of the school. She has a Bachelor and Master of Art degree from Montclair State University.

Miss Cindy has choreographed the spring concerts at the McKenna School of Dance since she became it’s director.  Classical ballets and children’s stories that she has transformed into ballets have been presented to the audiences over the years. She has brought “Cinderella”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Coppelia”, “Swan Lake” and “Giselle” to the students with much of the traditional, original choreography and prepared them for performing these classics.  She has also taken children’s stories such as “The Wizard of OZ”, “Peter Pan”, “The Little Mermaid”, “The Twelve Dancing Princes”, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” to name a few, and created full length ballets from them.

She has choreographed many musicals for high schools and middle schools, and has appeared in many ballets.
